Is my truck or SUV part of the recall?

| Vehicle | Model years | Engine | In the recall? |
|---|---|---|---|
| GMC Sierra 1500 | 2021-2024 | 6.2L V8 (L87) | Yes, if the engine was built in the recall window |

| Any of these models | 2025-2026 | 6.2L V8 (L87) | Not in this recall; part of NHTSA's open review (see below) |
Recall population per GM's filing with NHTSA: about 597,630 vehicles in the U.S. Check your specific VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

How to check your VIN
- Find your 17-character VIN. It's on the driver's side of the dashboard, visible through the windshield, on the driver's door jamb, and on your registration and insurance card.
- Enter it at [nhtsa.gov/recalls](https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls). An open recall shows as 25V-274 or GM recall N252494000.
- If it shows an open recall, call (804) 525-9626 or schedule service online and mention recall 25V-274.
- If it shows no open recalls, your vehicle is either not included or the work is already done. If you're not sure which, we can check GM's records and your service history.

What the recall repair involves
The repair starts with an inspection by a GM-trained technician, and what happens next depends on the result. Recall work is performed at no charge.
| Inspection result | What GM's remedy provides |
|---|---|
| Engine passes | An oil and filter change to the higher-viscosity oil GM now specifies (0W-40), a new oil fill cap and an owner's manual insert. GM also extended coverage on engines that pass, to 10 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle's in-service date. |
| Engine doesn't pass | The engine is replaced. GM has said replacement engines are a mix of new and remanufactured units, depending on availability. |
Coverage terms per GM's recall documents; ask our service team to confirm the coverage on your specific vehicle.
After the recall, use the oil shown on your new oil fill cap and owner's manual insert at every oil change. GM has updated its oil guidance during this campaign, so ask us to confirm the right oil when you book service.

NHTSA said it opened the Engineering Analysis after receiving 499 complaints of engine failure in vehicles that had already received the recall remedy, and 191 involving L87 engines built after the recall window. An Engineering Analysis is an investigation, not a recall: if your vehicle is a 2025 or 2026, or its engine was built after May 31, 2024, there's currently nothing to schedule because of the review.
If your engine shows warning signs
GM's recall filing says the engine condition can lead to engine damage and loss of power while driving. If your 6.2L truck or SUV develops a knocking or ticking noise, a flashing or steady check-engine light, or a sudden loss of power, pull over when it's safe and call us at (804) 525-9626 rather than continuing to drive. We can help arrange a tow to our service department. Keep records of every oil change and any recall work; they matter if anything changes later.
